Alistair Little was born in Surrey, UK in 1974 to Scottish parents. A self-taught narrative painter, Alistair pursued careers in the film and television and advertising industries before turning his attention to painting in the early 2000s.

Alistair is foremostly a narrative artist whose work considers issues of conflict, isolation and identity in settings where past and present often intertwine.

Alistair’s body of work tells many different stories from many different worlds.  These worlds have often reflected the artist’s own stories, from the single ‘Journeyman’ figure, and the escapist and heady worlds of horse racing, theatre and fast cars to the brutal world of boxing.

More recently Alistair has returned to his love of cinema by producing poster artwork for some of his favourite films.  These have been commissioned by the Bottleneck Gallery in New York.

Alistair is represented by the Panter & Hall Gallery in London, and the Ballater Gallery in Scotland.

“Alistair’s artistic influences are immediately evident. His great love of twentieth century cinema, particularly the Film Noir genre, dominates his style and his subject matter. His early experience in the film industry taught him the technique of capturing a wider story in the confines of one still image. Each of Alistair’s paintings burst with cinematic tension, his models are carefully posed and dressed to play a well-choreographed role within a cleverly lit backdrop. His use of chiaroscuro serves to heighten the drama, throwing his protagonists into half shadow or obscuring a face with a carefully tilted trilby. Through these images Alistair constructs an edgy narrative, showing the viewer glimpses of a seamy underworld peopled by morally ambiguous characters worthy of Raymond Chandler.”
